Abstract

Although calcific tendinitis can occur at the insertion of any tendon, it most frequently affects the supraspinatus tendon. Less common locations include the vastus lateralis tendon, the rectus femoris tendon, the insertion of the deltoid and the flexor carpi ulnaris tendon.
We report one patient who had acute pain in the hip with limitation of motion. Plain radiographs and CT of the pelvis showed calcification within the reflected head of the rectus femoris. The patient underwent CT-guided injection of 80 mg of methylprednisolone in combination with 2 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine. The pain disappeared immediately and the calcification disappeared by the 8-week follow-up.
